So I just recently started playing MUT. I win a few games here and there. But sometimes it seems close to impossible to compete with the team that has multiple LTD cards. I played a guy who had every ASA card maxed out and it was tragic
Is there a realistic way to compete with those teams as a NMS account or do I just need to start spending myself?
You'll find plenty of complaints in here about how people have spent money on cards only to have cheaper, lower attribute cards perform just as well. Spending money won't necessarily help. Several YouTube guys have made videos about it. Seems the only way around some of that stuff sometimes is to use whatever ""meta or cheese" play (double pass option, loop blitz etc) is current.

Depending on how recently you started playing, you could be at a tremendous disadvantage. You do need to have current cards on the field, not items from January. Without current cards, you won't be able to afford critical abilities at key positions that will keep you in the game against stretch-run spammers and rollout glitchers (Secure Tackler) and souped-up defensive lines (All Day and ((Run Protector + Pass Protector) or Secure Protector)), and also have AP left for abilities to improve your chances for completing passes (Set Feet Lead, Hot Route Master or Apprentice abilities, Grab-N-Go, etc.) and for breaking up passes (various Zone KO abilities).
Even with 12 OOP All-Star Athletes in my current lineup, I feel like I am at something of a disadvantage against some opponents, but that often comes down to the abilities they equipped vs. the abilities I equipped, which is very much the nature of the game at this time of year.
I started 5 days ago and have a 95 overall team already. That being said I wouldn’t even think of loading up a h2h game. I will wait until I have a roster that can compete with all the 98-99 speed players. I got lucky and pulled Larry Allen RG 98 and 98 WR Calvin from the BND packs for ASA field pass. I’m seeing how easy it is to get a 40/40 20-40 duel theme team this year. I’m loving my 40 Ravens 20 lions so far.

That was the best thing about this year, although at this point the 20 Packers on top of my 50/50 Cowboys is more form than function. Really, at this point, Goon Squads are prevailing, and the best thing you can get from team chemistries will be speed for your defensive linemen and lower-SPD outside linebackers.

Exactly. I can’t believe how fast I’ve built a 95 team. I’m so glad I skipped out for most of the year and didn’t spend any money. I usually go crazy with bundles but I’m staying NMS or LMS this year. I won’t jump into h2h until I’m at least 97 overall. I have a few 99 speed players but once all my DBs and skill position Players hit 99 speed I will hop into h2h. My favorite card so far is 95 CB Deion with 99 speed and 3 AP UC. That card balls for me in the slot.

It was a great card up until NFL Combine in late February. After that, he was a poor-man's Patrick Peterson. But if he's a depth corner when you get back to head-to-head and you have good stuff around him, he'll be alright.

WELCOME! Unfortunately, this game is very much pay to win. We're officially in MUT Season, which means that stats barely matter, abilities are everything. Especially X-factors as baked on (or passive) abilities that never deactivate, that's what is making the game go round.
Also, many players (or at least i just became aware) are quickly learning that there is a small subset of cards in the game (typically newer, large bodies) who get this ULTRA elite spin move. I dunno if you ever played College Football, but think Judkins from liek September or October, which EA i believe patched out of that game, eventually... however, now here it is, showing up in late Madden cycle. It is far and away the best, most overpowered skill move in the entire game. Get Tank + Spin Cycle (maybe Human Joystick, as well) and get the big bois out there twirling and spinning around, Ed Too Tall Jones (WR) is the most overpowered card in the game right now. He's an elite punt and kick returner and can basically teleport across the field 5+ yards at the tap of a button. If you're not yet using this, you should be working towards it. Although i do not have a comprehensive list of which players get this spin move, mostly focused around All Star Athletes, but others, as well.

Hopefully folks can help fill in gaps in my list. Make sure you do your Solo Challenges for things liek AKA Icons and Ultimate Legends, you can earn full/free cards from those promos and they're quite good, including the 98 AKA AJ Dillon. If you complete your ASA Field Pass, you should have 10 tokens to also grab yourself a BND from that promo. Larry Allen (DT) is a very good choice for a BND, but you can't really go wrong, take whatever fills the most needed gap in your roster. Anthony Edwards best Running Back in the entire game, IMO although the other three from the list above are fantastic. Anything else is second rate.
